The term Manifest Destiny refers to the idea in the late 1700s and early-to-mid 1800s in the United States that the US was "destined" to reach from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans. Settlers used this a reason to displace and slaughter thousands of Natives on their way to the Pacific.
