Many slaves died during the Middle Passage Voyage from Africa to the Americas because of disease. Slaves were placed in deplorable conditions on ships where they would lay side by side in very cramped quarters. There was no organized plumbing nor was the food nutritious. Many contracted diseases, which then spread to others in their close quarters.
