What effect did the Great Awakening have on the American colonies?

    I believe the answer is: The Great Awakening caused a split in American Protestantism in the American Colonies.

    During the great awakening, American Protestantism was divided into two different groups. One group believed that everybody is advocated to be christian preachers, while the other believe that only those who had study the subject thoroughly under church guidance are able to do so.
