    Triangle Shirtwaist Disaster 1911 r. Were killed 146 people (129 women and 17 men), of which most of the victims were Jewish and Italian immigrant women, ranging in age from fourteen to forty-eight years. One reason for such a large number of victims was the closure of most exits in the building, including exterior staircases - common practice at the time, aiming to prevent getting on the premises of unauthorized persons and theft.
