Well South depended on slavery for life. They needed somone to pick cotton (cotton was very inportant in the South) they needed someone to labor and so on. They also thought that black people who were slaves, where a lower class group of people.

That's the most information I can give you because that question has been unanswered or hard to answer for 40 years! No joke.

The answer is the economy was mainly agricultural and needed many workers in the field. They needed the slaves to pick cotton and tobacco which they made all their money off of.
