The Bering Strait is located between Russia and North America. It is named by Vitus Jonassen Bering (lived from 1681 to 1741), who was a Danish cartographer and explorer in Russian service. The bering Strait and the Bering Land Bridge were named in his honor. It is believed that a small group of people arrived to the Bering Land Bridge from eastern Siberia during the last Glacial period before expanding into the settlement of the Americas about 16,500 years ago. The bridge was covered by a sea 11,000 years BP.

Answer: Danish explorer Vitus Jonassen Bering.
