About 200 years passed between Rome's early days as a sleepy little settlement and its invasion in the 5th century CE.

Rome was a huge and powerful empire for many long years, however it couldn't resist the attacks of barbarians such as Visigoths, Vandals, and Huns which started in the 5th century and ultimately destroyed the Roman empire.
