Why did Jefferson, despite his views on government spending, go to "war" with the pasha of Tripoli? What was the outcome?

    The main reason why Jefferson engaged on this war so far away was because he knew that America was losing lots of revenue to pirates, who were pillaging American ships and killing American sailors. The outcome was a win for the US.
