Compare the tobacco-based economic development of Virginia and Maryland with South Carolina's reliance on large-plantation rice-growing and African slavery base?

    In general, the tobacco-based economic development of Virginia was more economically successful because tobacco was in much higher demand around the world. Also, tobacco was much more easily grown in this area than rice.
