Whose shrine does the Durham Cathedral house? What other purpose did/does the cathedral serve?

    The shrine there is the Shrine of St Cuthbert. The cathedral is a sort of a reliquary and a library for many great and important religious and historical works of Great Britain, including copies of the Magna Carta and the remains of the Venerable Bede.
