The journey from West Africa to the West Indies and British North America was also known as the Atlantic Slave Trade. The Atlantic Slave Trade took place from the 16th Century through to the 19th Centuries and was a mass deportation, with such huge numbers that people who had been enslaved from Africa and brought to the New World were the largest "immigrant" population in the New World.
