The Annexation Committee, a small group of white businessmen and politicians who supported the idea of annexing The Hawaiian islands to the United States. They believed that, by joining with the main importer of Hawaiian agricultural products, it would be beneficial to the Hawaiian economy. The Annexation Committee overthrew the Hawaiian Queen Lili'uokalani, in a bloodless coup on January 17, 1893, with the support of the United States Minister in Hawaii, John Stevens, and a group of the Marina aboard USS Boston; thus, the committee and established a pro-annexist regime.
