There were several reasons that led to the US war of independence. First and the foremost reason was over taxation by the British to cover their expenses that were incurred because of the Indo-French war. This enraged the US citizens and they wanted to revolt against the British. Certain goods like cotton, tobacco etc. that were made in America had to be sold to sold to the British and again those goods were further taxed for selling. There was definite policy of double taxation. The gold that were sold to the Americans by the Europeans had to land in Britain first and then after taxation it reached America by British ships.
