Saddam Hussein al-Tikriti (born April 28, 1937, Al-ʿAwjah, Iraq-died December 30, 2006, Baghdad), was the president of Iraq (1979-2003) whose brutal rule was marked by costly and unsuccessful wars against neighbouring countries.
