Judging from the status of queens such as Cleopatra and Nefertiti, woman enjoyed higher status in Egypt than in other ancient culture. Women of their status could be viewed as gods as were their male dynastic relatives. Women of common status were more ambiguous as their roles were left to more traditional tasks of home making a child bearing. Ancient Egyptians, of course, were slave holders as were most ancient cultures and treated enslaved women with the same contempt reserved for all slaves.
