    Biggest change that occurred during the war was the passage of the 13th Amendment. There was no more slavery in the United States. Another change was in how we referred to this country. Before the war, this country was always referred to as the United States are. It was always followed by the plural. Many states made up one country. After the war, it became the United States is, a singular. Still many states but one country. There were many other changes. There is a book called "The Second American Revolution" by McPherson that goes into detail about all of this. Everything from canning milk, by a man named Borden, to preserving meat, to advances in medicine
