Why was it important for Virginia and New York to ratify the Constitution?

    New York and Virginia were the largest colonies at the time. Although the ratification process began in New Hampshire, if America's two biggest colonies had not accepted the constitution, that would mean that a large portion of Americans didn't either, since so many people lived in these two colonies at the time.
