Other than economic issues, why did Spain and Portugal colonize Latin America in the 16th Century?

    Spain and Portugal became interested in Latin America last 16th Century. They were interested in the minerals that are present in the country like gold and silver besides of the raw materials. Latin America was rich with natural resources that were needed by the colonizers.
