Why was schooling not considered as important in colonial times as it is now?

Schooling wasn't a big deal, because the reality of the people was just in contracting everything together, (when united states was being formed); their reality was much more different than ours today, it was about surviving, than getting money.

The girls learned cooking and cleaning and skills they would use as a wife and the boys usually went to school because back then boys went to school and got an education but girls stayed home and learned there also the girls went to school if they were lucky
