How did plague lead to an economic collpase in the 3rd century?

    Because the plague killed so many of the poor peasantry the labor force was greatly diminished. The farms were left unplanted and the market place spread the disease even faster. Merchants were primary spreaders of the plague because of their tendency to travel from place to place, unknowingly spread germs with their products.
