After the (Middle Ages, Dark Ages, Treaty of Verdun, Fall of Rome), there was no central government or organization. People looked for protection from powerful (Lords, Priest, Kings). This relationship led to the feudal system. The king held all the power, and it trickled down to nobles. The (Serfs, Kings, Monks) were at the bottom of the social structure and relied on nobles to keep them safe.
