The British defeated the French in North America and secured their settlements that provided them with fish, whale products and also lumber. They also had products imported from other natives (due to climates that were unsuitable for growing crops such like wheat) but corn, beans, and pumpkins grew well.

The settlements of New England had mountains, forests and rivers. the forest obviously supplied them with vast amounts of lumber (which led them to specialize in shipbuilding) they also had other colonies import cereal crops due to the unsuitable terrain of the rocky mountains.
