Pickett's charge was the infantry assault ordered by Confederate General Lee against Union positions on July 3, 1863. It was the last day of the Battle of Gettysburg. Pickett's charge was a part of Lee's plan to teke Cemetary Hill, the central position of the Union forces. This attack was commanded by Major George Pickett. Lee hoped that the infantry charge would be protected by a powerful cannonade of the Union center. But this attack was a total disaster and it resulted with the Confederate casualty rate over 50%. Answer: B. Destroy Union artillery with a barrage.
