The original purpose of the Constitutional Convention was to revise the Articles of Confederation. However, it really turned into a debate on how America should be governed, resulting in the United States Constitution

The Constitutional Convention of 1787 aimed to come up with a better way to run the United States' government than the way it was at the time. Before the Constitution and the Bill of Rights came into existence, America was ruled by the Articles of Confederation. Many U. S. citizens were unhappy with the Articles of Confederation because they unfairly taxed them and crime ran rampant do to poor business structure. Another problem included the unification of the colonies. After the Revolution, Americans tended to think of themselves only as Pennsylvanians or just Georgians instead of Americans. This problem was realized by the founders who strived to create laws at the Constitutional Convention that would unify it's citizens.
