How did the need to preserve food contribute to European exploration?

    Europeans at this time did not have fridges so they had to find other ways of preserving food. One of them was using spices, but those spices were not available in Europe, but had to be imported from India.

    In order to decrease the prize of the spices they wanted to find a direct route to India, which was the incentive for the exploration.
