    The United States started to enter the Great Depression in 1929. This was also the year that Hoover took office. In October of 1929, the stock market crashed. This resulted in the loss of millions of dollars. Thousands of families lost their life savings due to the crash. Along with this, banks began to close because so many individuals were trying to get their money out of the bank that banks literally ran out of money. All of this was taking place just 7 months after Hoover took over as president.
