Why did George Washington refuse to take slavery for being Commander in Cheif?

A. He was a rich man.

B. The slavery was not high enough.

C. He believed a commander should not profit from war.

D. His wife was already on the government payroll.

I think it's C, but I'm not sure

    From what I remember and was taught George Washington lived a life of regret after the war because he had slaves ... but that's all I can remember
