Despite the mixed records of Presidents John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, and Richard Nixon and the divisions within the civil rights movement, the 1960s is a notable decade in US history for the profound success of the black civil rights movement. Assess the validity of this statement.

    This is in general a very valid statement. During no other time in US history since the Civil War had the well-being of blacks been more called into question. Real legislation such as the Civil Rights Act made huge differences for blacks accross the nation.
