James Madison was the person who wanted a strong republic, but unlike that of the United Kingdom. He wanted this new land, America, to be completely different than its "mother country," Britain, which is why he was really rooting for a different system than that of Britain. He did manage to do that within the United States Constitution as well as the Bill of Rights.
