The Vietnam War was caused merely by the spread of Communism. Much like the Korean War, where the North invaded the South, the same happened in Vietnam. America's foreign policy at the time was to stop the spread of communism. What drew us into the war was the fact that Northern Vietnam shot at one of our battle ships. This drew us into a conflict. The status of how it was to fight in Vietnam was that is was pure hell. That's how my cousin described it anyways. You had a great deal of chemical warfare with napalm and agent orange.
