The Connecticut River is the longest riven in the New England region of the United States.

It rises at the U. S border with Quebec, Canada and passes through four U. S. states; namely, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire, before discharges at the Long Island Sound.

The name "Connecticut" was a French term of the Mohegan word "quinetucket", which means "beside the long, tidal river". The French term was used in 1600s which was simply called "The Great River" at that time.
