What three things reduced the role of the government in 1800

Most conservatives agree that smaller government is better. This means pulling back on things like the government supplied safety nets that are in place, getting rid of redundant offices and staff, and reducing the role that the government plays in everyone's everyday life. Unfortunately, the majority of Republicans that are in office righ now are NOT conservative. Liberals support the idea that the government needs to take care of all of us, provide our every need, and control and redistribute wealth to the poorest among us. Therefore, the government needs to be very large and very expensive.
