How did the transcontinental railroad differ from railroads in Europe? It was built by private enterprise. It was built by the government. It was owned by the towns and cities. It was owned by individual states.

    The transcontinental railroad in the United States mainly differed from the railroads built in Europe because it was was built by private enterprise (three separate companies in fact).
