Why was Thomas Jefferson concerned about the purchased of the Louisiana territory

Thomas Jefferson was concerned about the Louisiana purchase as the land was unexplored as Louis and Clark had only gone through a small section of the land. Also the land would add a lot of land for the United States witch was still developing as a country so that means that it could be left useless and unexplored and no people could live there
