    Islamic extremists resented U. S. intervention and influence in the Middle East is why Persian Gulf War cited by some as an event that fueled Islamic extremism, after the Soviet-Afghan war many mujahedeens including bin Laden beleived that they could harm USA in some way like the SOviet Union, they saw Gulf war inttervention as spreading American infulecne over the middle eats despite the fact that it was Saudi Arabia which asked USA for intervention in Kuwait
