Why was the Glorious Revolution in England unusual in comparison to political developments in France, Spain, and Russia? While the French, Spanish, and Russian monarchies were becoming more absolute, the Glorious Revolution created a limited monarchy. The Glorious Revolution is the only instance in which the line of succession of a monarchy was altered by warfare. Unlike most revolutions, one monarch willingly ceded power to another monarch. The Glorious Revolution resulted in an elected republic, unique in Europe at the time.
