Why was 1948 a pivotal year for the United States with regards to its involvement in the Middle East? The U. S. was first to recognize the independence of the state of Israel.

    This is true. Israel was created after World War ll to make a homeland for dislocated Jews, but this caused much anger from Palestine because the UN basically said, "Palestine we're taking your land so deal with it" and that ruffled some feathers.
