There have been many contributions from the French. These include art, French fashion, interior design, as well as French architecture. Fur trade was such a big deal because they didn't have modern jackets like we do. Fur kept them warm, and beaver hats were in style. The poor needed fur to make shelter, warmth, and style. They could trade in useful goods they didn't need, for fur that people needed. Furs were so popular, tons of voyageurs went across Canada to trade.
