Moctezuma I expanded the empire by taking over the neighboring lands and creating larger temples for Aztec Gods. He did hide behind his religious beliefs for expanding his empire. He did everything in his power to expand his civilization and religious beliefs. It was during his rule that the Templo Mayor was hugely expanded. Many slaves were brought from the conquered land for sacrificing their labor in favor of building this temple. These slaves not only gave labor, but also provided other resources for expansion of the temple.
