The Truman Doctrine established the U. S policy of 'detainment' - Communism could stay where it was, but it could not stretch further. The Truman Doctrine is the reason we got involved in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

The Marshall Plan is a economic one; The U. S rebuilt the economies of western Europe and Japan, with hopes that economic prosperity in these regions would rebuild Europe into a capitalist region, which succeeded.
