    The answer is D) because the cotton had spikes and pockies on it, so it hurt to touch, and you could purchase a slave to save yourself from the pain

    The answer is D, the cotton gin patented by Eli Whitney made cotton production increase. The theory with this is that they would need less slaves to produce cotton now, but they wanted more slaves so they could produce even more cotton than before.
