    D. Immigrants

European immigrants came to America with little money and hardly any real skills and would take any job they could get. Most of these jobs were in factories and sweatshops where they worked long hours in dirty, unsafe conditions. Injuries and some times death was common, but with thousands of immigrants coming through Ellis Island every month, it was easy to find a replacement.
