The factors that lead to high child and maternal mortality rate in Sub-Saharan Africa are related to the level of danger still associated with pregnancy in this region due to a poorly developed health sector. Due to the lack of proper pre-natal care along with proper facilities and doctors to perform births both the child and mother are placed at a higher risk. In Sub-Saharan Africa there are shortages of both resources and access to many modern technologies and medical services which can be seen as leading to higher rates of infant and mother mortality rates.
