The treaty of Versailles was after WWI, it was held in the palace of Versailles, France. And was signed on June 28th 1919 by the Allied nations, stating the punishment for Germany:

-to give up lands to the French, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania and Denmark.

    -reduce Germany's army

    -have Germany pay reparations.

America disagreed with the harsh terms Europe had for Germany, and wanted to punish Germany but also be fair.
