Why did other southerners still remain loyal to slavery?

    For a variety of reasons. One, humans are naturally resistant to change, and would rather do things the traditional way. Two, prejudice and racism was rampant among both northern and southern persons, viewing those that they once held in captivity as something less than their own race. And three, not wanting to get off their lazy butts and do their own work themselves
