Depends on witch ones. the purtians came to escape persicution over their religion. they were looking establish a colony were puritan ideas would be the law in other words, a religious state intolerant of other religious. the non-purtians colonist came over to seek oppertunities in a new land. There were few oppertunities for the average person in england and certainly no land to buy it was also very crowded over there. Many of these colonist were dponsered by a british company or by the gonverment itself, and they expected a return on there investment such as natural resourses like lumber (few trees were left in england) various minerals, especially gold, which was not found in great quantinties. Also created a market for rum and tabbacco.
