If social conditions formed a long term background to the French Revolution what was the short term cause of the revolution?

    There were mainly three different causes for the revolution in France. They were economic, social and political. Because economic and social problems take longer to solve, I would say that the answer is political reasons. The people were not represented and were looked down on and their living conditions were terrible. Hence the revolution ... twice.
