What could happen to a person found guilty of crime in the South after the Thirteenth Amendment became law?

    Since the 13th amendment stated that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the prson shall have been convicted, shall exist in the United States or in its jurisdiction",

    They could be forced to work.
