    A. Hernando de Soto died searching for the Seven Cities of Gold and was buried in the Mississippi River.

    Hernando de Soto was the first explorer who discovered Mississippi River. In fact, his fleet was the first European team of explorers which traveled through the Mississippi River.

    After crossing the Mississippi River, Hernando de Soto was struck by fever and, on 21st May 1542, he died from it. His crew sanked his body in the Mississippi River.
