A reason that the South had to reinvent its economy after the Civil War was the North had taken over its industry. the North had taken over its farmland. enslaved labor was no longer an option. sharecropping was no longer an option.

    Enslaved labor was no longer an option, so the South had to figure out a different way to keep the cash flowing into its economy. They had to find a new cash crop (it was peanuts) to grow that didn't need a much labor to make a profit.

    Enslaved labor was no longer an option since the Emancipation Proclamation freed all slaves.
